What is Line Stopping?

Line stopping, also referred to as line plugging, is a specialized method used to temporarily isolate a section of an active pipeline without relying on existing isolation valves. This process creates a safe, controlled work area, allowing repairs, modifications, or valve replacements to be completed while minimizing service interruptions. Once the work is finished, the temporary line stop equipment is removed, and the pipeline is returned to normal operation.

Common Uses for Line Stopping:

  • Pipeline relocations
  • Replacement of aging or faulty valves
  • Permanent line abandonment (dead-ending)
  • Temporary bypass installations
  • Installation of new process equipment
  • Pipeline material testing
  • Leak repairs and maintenance

Whether your application requires a single line stop, double line stop, or a more complex triple line stop with a temporary bypass, our team can design a solution tailored to your project’s specific requirements while minimizing downtime and service disruptions.
