What Is Pipe Squeezing?

Pipe squeezing (also called squeeze-off) is a controlled process used to temporarily stop or control the flow of fluid or gas in a PE pipeline by compressing it between parallel bars. HDPE’s thermoplastic properties allow it to deform under pressure and then recover once released and re-rounded. This method is commonly used in water, sewer, gas, and industrial systems when valve isolation is not possible or practical. When performed correctly and safely, pipe squeezing minimizes downtime, avoids full system shutdowns, and helps maintain continuous operations.

Flow Control Solutions provides full-service PE / HDPE pipe squeezing using the Mechanical & Hydraulic Squeeze-Off Tool suitable for most 2″–12″ PE/MDPE/HDPE pipe with ≤ SDR 11–17 for HDPE pipe. Our capabilities include:

If required, prior to mobilization, we are able to verify tool performance through a yard simulation to confirm control, re-rounding recovery, and operator method. On site, our crews follow detailed squeeze logs and inspection procedures to ensure compliance and safety at every stage.
