Flow Control Solutions recently completed a 30" x 12" hot tap on a carbon steel feedermain. The scope of work included installing the tapping sleeve and valve, completing pressure testing, and performing the live hot tap. Careful preparation and precise execution allowed the work to be completed safely while keeping the pipeline in service and avoiding unnecessary disruption.

For live pipeline projects, the quality of the installation depends heavily on the preparation completed before the hot tap begins. Accurate measurements, equipment positioning, available clearances, and site conditions must all be carefully reviewed and confirmed in advance. When working on critical infrastructure, thorough planning helps prevent unexpected issues and ensures the tapping operation can proceed safely and efficiently.

No two hot tapping projects are exactly alike. Existing utilities, walls, structures, confined spaces, and other site restrictions can create challenges that require a customized approach. At Flow Control Solutions, we assess the specific conditions of each project and develop a solution around the available space, pipeline requirements, and operational needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all installation method.

Good project preparation provides several benefits:

- Verifies that sufficient space is available for the tapping equipment and installation
- Identifies potential conflicts with existing utilities or surrounding infrastructure early
- Helps prevent unexpected delays and expensive on-site adjustments
- Creates safer working conditions around active, pressurized pipelines
- Allows the hot tapping process to be carried out correctly and efficiently

Complex site conditions do not necessarily require a shutdown or extensive excavation. With experienced technicians, specialized hot tapping equipment, and a properly engineered approach, many challenges can be successfully accommodated. Tight spaces, nearby structures, walls, and utility conflicts can often be addressed through careful planning and a solution designed specifically for the site.

At Flow Control Solutions, we partner with municipalities, contractors, utilities, and industrial clients to provide customized hot tapping and line stopping solutions based on the specific requirements of each pipeline and job site.
